One Month Old Today
I’m right now uploading pictures onto the Shutterfly collection because I feel like I haven’t done that in a while. After all, there are only so many pictures of you can take of Delton sleeping, eating, taking a bath, being held, being held by family members, being held by friends and being held by complete strangers. That hasn’t happened yet, but I will for sure get a photo when it does. I’m hoping that the first complete stranger who asks to hold him is Dikembe Mutombo.
We haven’t had anyone staying with us this week and I thought it would be tougher than it has been. As much as we all love our families, there is a point where you just want to be left alone and have your house to yourself with your wife and kid.
I think the most interesting development of the past week is how Delton’s older siblings, (the dogs that were our babies before we had a real baby) have adapted to having a baby in the house. They each have their own demeanor around Mister Man.
Tino “Abdul” Barleycorn aka Tino or Mister Tin, is probably the most gentle of the three and he is an old soul of a dog if that is possible. He thinks that Delton is his baby and he would sit in Delton’s lap if he could. He pretty much wants to be near the baby all the time and if the baby cries, Tino is genuinely worried.
Miss Mommy Davey Esther Louise Sunshine or Davey is the mother of the other two dogs and she has pretty much never met a stranger. She is friendly to everyone and is the only one of the three that we let the neighborhood children pet. She doesn’t dislike Delton but in her opinion, he doesn’t bring much to the table because he can’t affirm her neediness. She’s a good, low maintenance dog for the most part, but two or three times a day she will start bugging out for no particular reason. She did this before Delton was here as well, but the nuisance of it is more magnified due to the fact that we spend most of our day caring for a baby, so when Davey does her mandatory freak outs, it’s more irritating than it is endearing.
Finally, there is the matter of Lenny Booby Bullet “Le Petes” Peters. Lenny has always been the neediest of the three dogs. He is the only one of the three to spend his entire life in the shelter of our house. When a visitor comes, he is usually first to announce and he doesn’t play well with others. He is a classic all bark, no bite kind of dog. When it comes down to it, he is really a sweet and docile little guy BUT he is also incredibly high maintenance and needy. We joke that we had to keep him because no one else could tolerate him. He has very little regard for Delton. If you are holding the baby, and Lenny wants to sit with you, you better look out because he might just jump in your lap. He hasn’t hurt the boy yet but we are convinced it’s going to happen because he is a dog and doesn’t know any better. This can be further confirmed by the fact that he manages to draw my ire at least once a day by either bulleting me in the crotch, hence the nickname, or trying to jump on you and scratching your legs. It should be noted that he can jump pretty high and has managed to climb up my legs into my arms on several occasions. But he really doesn’t have much regard for safety or privacy, so we have to be careful when he comes bulleting in the room. Lenny is handling the arrival of a new family member the hardest. He goes into rooms by himself and sulks at least twice a day and you have to go lay with him and hold him in order to get him to snap out of it. It’s kind of funny but you do feel sorry for him. I have heard that dogs can get depressed and I’m no veterinarian, but I would believe it after hanging with Petes!
So, Halloween is this week and several have asked what D Money will dress up as…I’m thinking he will dress up as a baby!
Daddy Dub- OUT!
